Enabling every child to thrive and succeed
Religious Education
Schools in the Arun Villages Federation have a vision and values that follow a broadly Christian ethos. We are Church of England Controlled schools; this means that, not only do we have input from the Local Authority but we also have input from the Diocese of Chichester.
The teaching and learning of Religious Education (RE) is an important component of enabling all children to develop a knowledge and understanding of not only Christianity but also other major world religions and belief systems. There is a need for a syllabus that explains a fundamental need to reflect on the changes in modern day society and the need to help children understand the different ways in which religion and worldviews can be understood, interpreted and studied.
As a West Sussex Local Authority school, we follow the Locally Agreed Syllabus for RE. This has recently been updated and can be accessed by clicking on the link below:
To support the teaching of the Locally Agreed Syllabus, the schools use ‘Understanding Christianity’, a Diocesan teaching and learning resource designed to support children in understanding the key theological concepts within Christianity.
Due to the recent updating of the syllabus, the RE Curriculum Overview is currently being reviewed and the structure of the curriculum will be published shortly.
