Sports at St James'
Sporting Achievement is a strength of St James’ School. We believe that an active body creates and active and imaginative mind and that participating in sporting activities encourages teamwork, problem solving, achievement and a sense of competition. All children are encouraged to take part in a range of activities both in school time as part of the curriculum and also outside of school hours.
The school provides a range of extra-curricular sporting activities throughout the year, some of which are funded by the Sport Premium Grant. These include football, netball, dance, multi-skills, cricket, athletics and rounders.
Children from St James School participate in inter school competitions with schools from the Rother Valley Locality. Despite being the smallest school in the Rother Valley, in 2015 they won the Small Schools Football League, the Rother Valley Schools netball league and finished as runners –up in the RV Schools rounders tournament. They also reached the semi-finals of the Horsham inter-school cricket tournament, beating many large school in the process.
The children perform annually at the Rother Valley Schools Dance Festival at Midhurst Rother College.
