Safeguarding Children at St James’ CE Primary School

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

This means that we have Child Protection and Safeguarding Policies and procedures in place which we refer to on our website. All staff (including supply staff, volunteers and governors) must ensure that they are aware of these procedures.  The school’s policy is available for parents/carers to read HERE.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare.  We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

Our Federation Designated Safeguarding Lead for Pupils is: Mrs. Lizzie Martin

Our school-based Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads are:

Mrs Nicky Kirby and Mrs Natalie Douse

If you have a concern about a child’s welfare, please contact a DSL as soon as possible.  Record your concerns, and any observations or conversations heard but please do NOT conduct your own investigation or approach parents/carers independently.

Should you be unable to contact any of the above designated people and you have a pressing concern or believe a child to be in immediate danger, you can contact Child Protection Services either by phone or online:

Integrated Front Door (IFD) for Early Help & MASH

Tel: 01403 229900

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead, Allegations against Staff is:  Mrs. Lizzie Martin

If your concerns relate to the actions or behaviour of a member of staff (which could suggest that they are unsuitable to work with children), then you should report this to the Executive Headteacher, Mrs Lizzie Martin.

Please contact her, in confidence, via email at marking your email ‘Private and Confidential’ or by telephone on 01798 872196.

If your concern relates to the Executive Headteacher, you must contact Mr Richard Charman, Chair of Governors.

Please contact him, in confidence, by email on

or by telephone on 07541 362450

Safeguarding and Child Protection is the responsibility of everyone in the St. James’ community; the worst thing that we can do is to do nothing.

Please do not hesitate to raise a concern, no matter how small you may feel that it is.
